Lomond School is celebrating another year of exceptional SQA results, exceeding the National Averages by considerable numbers across all measures from National 5 to Advanced Higher. Pass rates remained over 90% for all levels, but it is the quality of the passes and high percentages of A grades that are particularly strong. Lomond’s number of A grades at Higher and N5 are 23% and 21% above the National Average, respectively. The Higher pass rate was a tremendous 17% above the National Average.
Our S6 cohort has performed exceptionally well, despite a challenging two years and having never sat official SQA exams. Three quarters of all Advanced Highers were awarded at A or B grade showing that the high quality of passes have held strong now that externally marked exams have resumed. Given the unpredictability of the past two years, this is a crucial statistic as it is the quality of passes and numbers of A grades that makes all the difference to success at University, and eases the transition to life beyond school.
Our S6 cohort leave to join Universities as diverse as: the University of St. Andrews, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Malaquais and University of the Arts London to read for degrees including: Law, Geoscience, International Relations, Marketing, Business, Engineering, Fine Art, Psychology, Criminology and Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
Principal, Johanna Urquhart said:
“Behind every grade and every statistic is a young person with their own unique strengths and their own story to tell, and I could not be prouder of what our pupils have achieved this year. I truly believe that the secret of Lomond’s success is doing the very best for every individual pupil according to their own strengths and needs, ensuring that their academic, physical, emotional and mental wellbeing is front and centre at all times. Well done to all of our pupils on a great set of results!”
“Helping our young people to achieve these results is a real team effort and I would like to pay tribute to all of my colleagues – both academic and support staff – who have all played their part magnificently. As always, our parents, carers, guardians and boarding team have shown unwavering care and support, for both their children and the school, and this has made a tremendous difference over the past two very difficult years. It has lifted us when we needed it most, and we are very grateful.”
Lomond School’s motto, Prospiciamus, has particular meaning for the school at this time of year as its leavers ‘look forward’ to new destinations, experiences and opportunities, and new and existing pupils look to the year ahead with excitement and the promise of another successful year. The 2023 results bear particular significance as the school will receive its first set of International Baccalaureate results, with IB Diploma and IB Career-related Programme pupils completing their second year of the programmes over the course of the 22/23 academic year.
