Sold out audiences ‘razzle dazzled’ by Chicago

Four sold-out audiences were absolutely ‘razzle dazzled’ at Lomond School at the end of November, as students from the Senior School delivered a stunning performance of the hit musical Chicago.

A talented cast of 23 brought to life iconic numbers such as “And All That Jazz,” “Roxie,” and “Razzle Dazzle” for their delighted audiences. The lead roles of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly were brilliantly portrayed by 6th year students Clemmie and Marianne, and Robyn and Romy, respectively. During the final two nights, the venue was transformed into a 1920s-style cabaret club, featuring round tables and even a jail where attendees could snap a selfie.

Director and co-producer Dr. Natalie Roncone, along with Musical Director and co-producer Doug Fleming, expressed their gratitude: “Our cast has worked incredibly hard since auditions in June, and we appreciate their professional dedication to this production. We feel fortunate to collaborate with such creative performers who are passionate about their craft, bringing commitment, energy, and joy to the stage. We would also like to extend our thanks to the entire production team, including our choreographer, front-of-house staff, technical and lighting crews, stage management, props, makeup, costumes, set-building, and the excellent live band.”

Lomond School Principal Claire Chisholm remarked, “What an exhilarating production! I can hardly believe this was a school performance; it could easily grace a West End stage! The cast put in tremendous effort, and I am so proud of each and every one of them.”

“Our school has a deep appreciation for music and drama! A large number of our students play musical instruments and our purpose-built drama studio hosts scheduled drama lessons from J4 onwards. We offer National 5 Drama and IB Theatre studies for students wishing to pursue their passion further.

I eagerly anticipate what will be produced next; we might need to invite Cameron Macintosh and Sonia Friedman to the next show, as the talent within our school is destined for greatness.
