Lomond School pupils, teachers and staff enjoyed an action-packed day at ON-X Linwood as the annual sports day saw records smashed as young athletes rose to the occasion. Pupils from the senior school represented their House in a wide range of track and field events and worked with teammates in events like the relay and tug-o-war.
All staff were involved in the officiating and the pupils performed very well throughout the day. The weather improved and the sun stayed out for the whole event. Jennifer S broke the 800m record from 1984 by 2 seconds and Alexander J broke the 1991 1500m record by over 2 seconds to highlight the quality of the performers. Both these athletes received the Most Meritorious Awards for these great achievements.
The Relay competitions were well contested with Colquhoun winning the Girls and Graham winning the Boys events. The Boys Throwing Cup was presented to Joshua W for finishing in the top 4 places in all the Throwing events and the Girls trophy was given jointly to Grace L who was 1st Javelin, 2nd Shot & 3rd Discus with Emma O who won both the Shot and the Discus.
Mr Dunlop and Miss Arthur entertained the pupils with the House Tug of War Competition at lunchtime which was a very popular event and in the afternoon the track Finals and last of the field events were completed. Mr David Dodson, who is retiring after 35 years at Lomond School presented the Relay Cups and the winning House Cup was given to Colquhoun House with 624 points, second was Bergius with 610 points and third was Graham with 563 points.
Many thanks must go to all the staff for assisting on the day, the Inspire Catering staff for providing the wonderful lunch and to Lomond’s Ground staff who helped set things up before and after the event. The On-X facility continues to host this event giving the right atmosphere for all pupils to compete at their own level and participate in the House competition. A big thanks to the PE department for overall running the event.
