On 22nd November, 24 rowers competed in the Scottish National Indoor Rowing Championships at the Ravenscraig Sports Facility in Motherwell.
This is a very well-attended event, open to all schools in Scotland. There were a number of fine individual performances from Fabian Q, Ewan M, Lucy M, Alice M and particularly Sam K who gained silver in the S5 race.
It was in the fast and frenetic relays where Lomond pupils really made their presence felt. First off was a terrific gold from the S2 boys (Toby B, Cameron G, Euan M, Fabian Q). The S3 girls (Ruby C, Zara E, Lucy M, Rachael S) and boys (Ethan B, William P, Caleb O’ H, James S) – new rowers all – then competed valiantly in their races.
The S4s (Alastair S, Marcus T, Taylor K, Alice M) powered to an impressive bronze medal before the S5s (Tavish H, Sam K, Chris W, Matija P) and S6 (James M, Alex J, Marty M, Rory S) brought the house down with imperious victories in their races. For Morrison and Johnson, in particular, this was a glorious swansong after so many other wonderful performances in this competition. James M, School Captain, deserves huge credit for all his efforts over the years coaxing, training and introducing so many of our pupils to this sport.
