Pupils, staff and parents at Lomond School once again showed that changing circumstances were not going to get in the way of school life, to ensure the schools S6 graduates got the send-off they deserved.
Showing the same determination and ability to be flexible and adapt as they have all year, the school changed the venue and format of their graduation ceremony just two hours before it was due to start. Originally planned to take place at Helensburgh Parish Church, with the rise in Covid cases locally, the school took the decision to move to an outdoor ceremony and the school’s facilities team transformed the astroturf at the Sports Hall at short notice, to welcome the departing Class of 2021 and their families.
The weather could not have been better and the year ended on a high note as the school community celebrated the hard work and achievements of Lomond School’s graduating class.
Principal, Johanna Urquhart said:
“The past school year has felt a little like running an obstacle course with the need to constantly adapt to ever changing restrictions; a return to online learning when we least expected it and the countless other challenges and regulations that we’ve had to take in our stride. Our ability to be flexible and adaptable as well as the experience gained over the past 18 months came to our aid last week. As our primary aim is always to ensure the safety of our pupils, staff, and their families, with the evolving situation regarding Covid cases locally, an indoor event no longer seemed appropriate. We made the decision to take the event outdoors on Friday morning and I can’t thank all those involved enough for their hard work in making it possible. As I said in my speech on the day, we were delighted to be able to say goodbye and recognise all of our departing pupils’ achievements. It really has been an honour and a privilege for all of us at Lomond School to have had the pleasure of seeing our pupils grow and develop into the wonderful young men and women they are today, and we wish them every success for the future”.
