After a one year hiatus, due to commitments to the schools 40th Anniversary celebrations, the Lomond School Community Orienteering event returned on Sunday bringing together people from Helensburgh and the surrounding area, seeking an exciting day in the great outdoors!
The event took place in Duchess Wood with courses ranging from a basic ‘white course’, which followed the pathway round the woods, to yellow and orange courses, which were more demanding in terms of finding the markers and negotiating the terrain. Families also welcomed the return of the ‘string course’ for younger children which was themed on the popular children’s story ‘We’re Going on Bear Hunt’.
Lomond School staff welcomed over 200 visitors to the schools sports centre to register for the event and Mrs Urquhart, Principal commented on the fantastic atmosphere of the day:
“From the very beginning of the event the dance studio was buzzing with activity as people registered for the event; returned clutching their time cards to see where they had placed; and enjoyed well deserved hot drinks and cakes which were kindly provided by our PTA.”
“The atmosphere in Duchess Wood was equally exciting! While families with young children enjoyed taking some of the easier courses at a leisurely pace, it was also great to see others dsahing around the woods to get the best time on the course.”
